When the term TLS comes in mind, the first question arises is what is TLS? TLS is Transport Layer Security. It is a setting of Internet Explorer having features of TLS 1.0 and TLS 1.1. The main point of concern is that from 22nd May 2017, QuickBooks online is not supporting the TLS setting of 1.0 or TLS 1.1. Additionally, QuickBooks requires an Internet Explorer(IE) setting of TLS 1.2 only. Sometimes QuickBooks TLS Error may occur that can hamper your work. But Don’t worry here you will get the best solution for the issue. 

If you access it via Internet Explorer(Windows), then this will cause hindrance to access QB Online. Apart from this, it does not impact any changes if you are using other browser like Firefox or Google Chrome.

Switch to QuickBooks online from QuickBooks Desktop

If you are facing difficulty moving to QuickBooks Online from QuickBooks Desktop then you need to verify your Internet Explorer TLS security settings to make sure it is allowed for TLS 1.2. Sometimes because of the QuickBooks TLS Error, you may also face some difficulties. 

  1. Windows 10 users

Windows 10 has in-built Internet Explorer 11, that’s why TLS 1.2 is enabled by default. By performing the below steps you can confirm whether TLS 1.2 is enabled or not.

The first thing you have to do is to shut the QuickBooks Desktop.

Next, open the Internet Explorer.

Select tools menu.

Then, go for Internet options.

Choose the Advanced tab and search for the security section.

Now, check whether TLS 1.2 is enabled or not. If not, click on the box to enable it.

Hit “OK” button.

Next, close Internet Explorer and again, open QuickBooks Desktop and check whether the problem is solved or not.

  1. Windows XP or Vista users

It is not possible to upgrade past Internet Explorer 8 on Windows XP or Vista, so you require upgrading your Windows operating system to a current version that is officially supported by Microsoft.

If you try sign-in to QuickBooks online

Your TLS settings depend on the operating system (OS). So for this, you have to check your operating system, if you are accessing QuickBooks Online from Internet Explorer.

  1. Windows 10 users

By default in Windows 10, Internet Explorer 11 and TLS 1.2 are already there.

Follow these steps to check whether TLS 1.2 is enable or not.

On Internet Explorer, tap on tools menu.

Next, select Internet options.

Tap on Advanced tab and search for the security section.

Now, check whether TLS 1.2 is enabled or not. If not, click on the box to enable it.

Next, Hit “OK” button.

At last, shut Internet Explorer and the open it again to sign in into https://qbo.intuit.com.

  1. Windows 7/8/8.1 users

You need to upgrade to Internet Explorer 11, if you are still using Windows older version 7, 8, 8.1. Or you can enable TLS 1.2 from your Internet Explorer settings if you want Internet Explorer 9 or 10. If you already have Internet Explorer 11, then, verify your TLS settings by performing below steps.

Select Internet options from the tools menu in Internet Explorer.

Hit the Advanced tab and then search for Security section.

Next, confirm that TLS 1.2 is enabled or not.

Tap on “OK” button.

Shut the Internet Explorer and then open it again to sign in to https://qbo.intuit.com.

  1. Windows XP or Vista users

You cannot update past Internet Explorer 8 on Windows XP or Vista, for this you must have to update your OS to a later version that is officially supported by Microsoft.

If TLS 1.2 error resumes after .net

If you are still facing the same error after confirmed TLS 1.2 process, then follow the given steps.

First step to do is you have to organize your Internet Explorer (IE) setting to avoid TLS error. The default browser for QuickBooks is Internet Explorer.

To configure, perform the given steps.

Tap on Tools and then go to Internet Options.

Choose delete from the General tab. Next, select Temporary Internet files and click on Delete.

Next,select the LAN setting from the Connections tab, go for LAN settings.

Then, choose the box next to Automatically Detect Settings.

Confirm that the Proxy servers are blank unless you use one.

Click on “OK” twice.

From the Advanced tab, scroll down the list.

Confirm that both SSL 2.0 and SSL 3.0 are examined.

Next, you have to clear the box to check for publisher’s certificate.

Scroll to the bottom from the Advanced tab.

Confirm that TLS 1.2 is unchecked.
